Chapter Services
Patients services through the Ohio Chapter have been a top priority
since the Foundation was established. These services answer a need
of all Myasthenia patients: to know more about MG,
to connect with other Myasthenics, and to learn to manage their MG.
Services include support groups: providing patients and family members
with a comforting and encouraging environment of MG, coping and creative
living. Because critical illness affects the whole family, it is the
goal of the Foundation to preserve their quality of life.
Referrals to Agencies which may be of assistance are offered when
appropriate. Through the Chapter office, our staff and volunteers endeavor
to promote public awareness of this disease and assist patients with
information and counseling with representatives who are also MG patients.
Medical meetings are planned at various times throughout the year
to assist the patients with information on new treatments and medications
for MG.
Funding
The Ohio Chapter is supported by dues and donations of our members.
The only outside funding is through the Community Health Charities.
Small fund raisers are an important part of our organization to raise
funds to pay for brochures, office expenses, postage and printing of
out Newsletter and patient correspondence.
Population Affected
MG can affect people of any age or race. The prevalence is estimated
at 14 per 100,000 population.
Patient Aid
Nationwide chapter network of 35 chapters, including the Ohio Chapter
providing newsletters, meetings, referrals and fund raising.
